The Hunar Foundation (THF), an approved non-profit organization, is striving to create a ‘Skilled Pakistan’ by providing vocational training to marginalized youth of the country. Pakistan is a nation of over 225 million people and sixth most populous country in the world, making it potentially the sixth largest labour force that can be harness for growth and development.
Through its six institutes across Pakistan in Karachi, Tando Allahyar, Lahore, Khairan and Multan, the foundation offers International standard vocational course, demand-driven training, highly qualified trainers and international certification ensuring a high degree of employability for graduates, business creating ability for young entrepreneurs.
Currently, the foundation offers courses ranging from refrigeration, air conditioning and auto mechanics to plumbing, welding and fabrication; from electronics, auto cad and graphic animation to tailoring, beauty care and hospitality and many other skills. Till now, over 4,500 students have graduated from THF institutes.
Realising that the instructors are crucial to the success of technical training program, THF continually invests in enhancing their training capabilities, ensuring that the trainers at THF are qualified and up-to date with training techniques. Instructors of different trades were sent to Australia for a Master Trainer program with support from AUSAID. Moreover, experienced trainers from Germany were invited to THF for a month long program to further enhance training capabilities of our instructors.
THF has the distinction of being the first technical institute in the country to introduce the City and Guilds certification in Pakistan, which is the UK’s leading provider of vocational qualification. THF’s aim is to provide training and certification such that the students’ competence is recognized by employer not only locally but also internationally.
Empowering women through vocational training
The Hunar Foundation has also taken major steps towards women empowerment. THF’s Central Vocational Institute (CVIW) in Karachi and Farouq Ahmed & Aftab Shamsi Technical Institute (FAASTI) in Bedian, Lahore currently offering six months courses in Beauty Therapy, Hair Dressing and Computer Applications and soon starting Industrial Stitching, Retail and Hospitality Management.
Basic IT, English language and life skills are taught with all courses. These certifications increase employment opportunities, freelance possibilities and entrepreneurship avenues for all.
THF aims to empower women by providing vocational training, giving them financial independence to take on the world.

Vision 2030
Hunar’s vision is to take these employable skills to 150,000 individuals and beyond by the year 2030. Each batch of 150,000 skilled graduates will provide and input of Rs30 billion to Pakistan’s economy.
Korangi complex
Spread over close to 5 acres, THF’s upcoming complex in Korangi houses institutes for both boys and girls as well as a teacher training excellence centre. Campus is targeted to educate 2,500 students annually.
Former banker donates lifetime earnings to the Hunar Foundation
We all think about giving back to the society by contributing towards a noble cause, but only those of us who are determined enough are able to convert their ideas into action. Rarer are people, who not only commit to a cause but also donate fortunes of their lifetime to charities that they believe in.
Mr. Salim Ahmad Zubairi a former prominent banker has donated to THF his share holdings in multiple listed companies as well as an apartment in Clifton. The total worth of the stocks and the apartment, which is located at a prime location in Clifton, Karachi, is around Rs.130 million.
The contribution was made by Mr. Zubairi in a gracious event held at THF’s Delhi Mercantile Society Technical Institute on Friday, December 22nd, 2017 in Karachi. The contribution would go towards establishing a state of the art vocational training institute in Karachi and would benefit the deserving students of Pakistan for years to come.
Speaking on the occasion, THF Chairman Mr. Aslam Khaliq lauded Mr. Zubairi’s remarkable act of generosity and urged every good citizen to come forward and follow on the same footsteps.
