The United States the world’s biggest video games market in terms of revenue, expected to surpass $140 billion in 2025, according to projections by Statista Market Insights. This figure includes the creation, publishing, distribution and monetization of PC, mobile and online games as well as spending on related hardware and accessories.
As the following chart shows, China follows close on the United States’ heels with a projected $137.8 billion in revenue in 2025. Both nations are expected to see significant growth over the next five years, with estimated industry turnovers of close to $200 billion per country. Rounding off the top five biggest gaming markets this year are Japan, the United Kingdom and South Korea. In 2025, the gaming market’s global revenue is projected to reach over $520 billion, rising to roughly $730 billion by 2030.
Gamescom 2025 kicks off in Cologne, Germany on Wednesday, running from 20-24 August. The event is the world’s largest event for computer and video games, with over 1,500 exhibitors from across 72 countries.
