- Shah Khawar has been appointed as the chief election commissioner of the PCB.
- The PCB Management Committee’s mandate has been extended by three months.
- Babar Azam resigned as captain of all formats in November.
The Inter-Provincial Liaison Ministry declared on Sunday that Shah Khawar, the former attorney general, has been appointed as the chief election commissioner of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Khawar has been tasked with organizing PCB elections by February during his three-month tenure in the realm.
The Inter-Provincial Ministry has released a notification stating that he is responsible for conducting the elections for the Regions and PCB chairman.
“Shah Khawar Board of Governors will hold elections on completion. The deadline for the election of the chairman is February 4, 2024,” the notification said.
It should be recalled that the federal government granted Zaka Ashraf’s tenure as the head of the PCB’s Management Committee an extension of three months earlier this month.
According to a notification from the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC), the federal cabinet has approved the three-month extension of the PCB Management Committee’s mandate under Rule 16(j) of the Rules of Business, 1973 and Article 48 of the PCB Constitution, 2014.
November saw a lot of activity on the cricket board as a number of significant changes were made, notably to the team and management.
It all began on November 15, when Babar Azam announced his resignation as captain of all formats after meeting with Ashraf and learning that his sole offer was to retain the captaincy for Test matches.
The PCB chose new captains for Test and T20I cricket shortly after he resigned, with Shaheen Afridi and Shan Masood leading their respective formats.
Subsequently, the PCB named former cricket player Mohammad Hafeez the team’s director and head selector Wahab Riaz.
Former bowler Sohail Tanveer was selected as the head of the junior selection committee, and Pakistan’s U19 team’s great batsman Mohammad Yousuf was tasked with leading the team.
