Wheat production to remain good as temperature unlikely to impact the crop
With the procurement of wheat during last season was on lower the side due to lesser production coupled with selling by farmers at prices higher than MSP in the open market consequent to the geo-political situation, the government has informed the parliament that wheat production this year may remain normal and there is little chance of it being affected by the rising temperature. Moreover, there is enough stock of wheat available in central pool to cater to the needs of the country till the time next wheat crop arrives. The Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar in a written reply in Lok Sabha said that in the Northern Indian plain, the maximum temperature in February 2023, was hovering around 32-330C in most of the areas, and this temperature is unlikely to impact the wheat grain growth adversely as crop canopy temperature can be easily modulated by 2-30C less than air temperature by irrigation.
India to spend tens of billions in 2023 to incentivize rice production
Last week, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) reported in the March World Agriculture Supply and Demand Report that India will continue to dominate the world rice trade in the 2022/23 marketing year, projecting that they will break their own world record with 22.5 million metric tons (MT) of rice exports on tap. In May 2022, the U.S. government along with nine other governments initiated technical consultations with India regarding their egregious trade distorting rice subsidies that feed into their public stockholding program and violate the terms of the Bali Peace Clause. However, to date, the U.S. government has not taken formal action to address India’s explicit World Trade Organization (WTO) violations.

ND daily oil production back above million barrels
North Dakota’s oil production climbed back above a million barrels of oil in January after dropping below that amount in December.
Lynn Helms, director of the North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources, who released new production numbers this past week, said the state had a 6 percent increase in oil production, producing 1,060,708 barrels of oil a day. In December, the state’s oil production dropped to 957,864 barrels of oil a day. Helms said the drop in oil production that month was weather related. He said it is expected there will be a major increase in February’s production. The state’s natural gas production also increased in January with a preliminary number of 87,871,026 million cubic feet (MCF) or 2,834,549 MCF a day.
‘Ukraine is a false justification’: America’s destructive new rush for natural gas
About 30 miles south of New Orleans, a construction site visible from space is rising. Sandwiched between the Mississippi River and disappearing wetlands, the 256-hectare (632-acre) site is visited by a stream of tipper trucks and concrete mixers that stir up dust on Louisiana 23, the state highway that goes down to Venice, the last spot of land before the river’s water flows into the Gulf of Mexico. The wetlands protect the area from hurricane surge and provide critical habitat for fisheries. But when completed in 2025, the construction site here will host a series of tanks and pipes designed for one purpose: to supercool natural gas into liquid form, so it can be transported on giant tankers to sell around the world to the highest bidder. The Plaquemines liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal is just one of five such terminals being built or expanded along the US Gulf coast in Louisiana and Texas.
