The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has stated that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is the appropriate authority to investigate illegal transactions in cryptocurrencies. Responding to queries raised by ProPakistani, an SBP spokesperson said in case any illegal transaction in cryptocurrencies was discovered, FIA was the appropriate authority to investigate. He made it clear that it was not the central bank’s prerogative to examine any individual if he or she is engaged in the aforenamed illegal activity.

All You Need to Know About HEC’s Innovator Seed Fund 2021-22:
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has invited applications for Innovator Seed Fund (ISF) 2021-22, an initiative under the larger Higher Education Development in Pakistan (HEDP) program aimed at encouraging entrepreneurship in the country. Under the ISF 2021-22, 15 promising early-stage startups will receive up to $35,000 in seed funding from the HEC for the next 12 months. A prototype “lickable” TV screen which can mimic food flavours has been developed by a Japanese professor, Media reports. Dubbed Taste-the-TV, ten canisters spray flavour onto a “hygienic film” which is rolled over the screen for the viewer to lick. Professor Homei Miyashita of Meiji University, suggested it could be used to train cooks or sommeliers remotely.

Covid: YouTube star Grace Victory ‘so grateful’ on son’s first birthday:
A YouTuber who gave birth to her son the day before she was put in a coma with Covid said she was so grateful to celebrate his first birthday. Grace Victory, 30, from High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, asked doctors to deliver baby Cyprus two months early on Christmas Eve 2020. Doctors put her in the coma on Christmas Day, and she was in it for three months.

Chinese regulator pauses partnership with Alibaba:
China’s telecommunications regulator has paused a partnership with Alibaba Cloud after one of the firm’s engineers discovered the Log4shell security flaw. According to state-backed Chinese media, the suspension is because the firm did not report Log4shell to The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in time. The company first alerted the foundation overseeing the flawed code.

Covid: Further arrest made over suspected fake vaccine records:
A woman has become the fourth person to be arrested over suspected fake Covid-19 vaccination records. Three men were previously held after investigations were launched when staff at two London NHS Trusts noticed suspicious entries on their systems. Police said a 28-year-old woman from Redbridge had been held, and two laptops and two mobile phones seized, as part of one of the probes. She and another of the arrested men are both employees of the same NHS Trust.

US safety body to probe Tesla on in-car gameplay:
An investigation has been launched in the US into more than half a million Tesla cars that are equipped with touchscreens. It follows a complaint filed by a user who discovered he could play games while driving. The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is looking into some 580,000 Tesla Models 3, S and X made from 2017 to the current day.

Big tech names withdraw from Las Vegas CES conference:
Amazon, Facebook and Twitter are among firms to announce that they will not send teams to the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), due to take place in Las Vegas in January. It comes as concerns grow about the spread of the Omicron variant of Covid-19. Other firms, including Google and self-drive unit Waymo, still plan to attend. The organisers said the conference would run from 5 January for four days, with health precautions. Those will include proof of vaccination, mask-wearing, and on-site Covid testing.
