Its total length is 263,775 kilometers. The National Expressway is a toll road network owned, maintained and operated by the Pakistani Highway Administration under the Ministry of Communications. In the city, buses play an important role in the inter-city transportation of a large number of tourists.

The Pakistani automobile industry started late, starting in the 1950s, and automobile production was mainly based on assembly. Pakistani cars are mainly imported from Japan, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, Germany, the United Kingdom, Belarus, Turkey, and other countries. In early 2007, the Pakistani government adopted a long-term development plan for the automobile industry to encourage and promote foreign auto companies to invest in Pakistan, increasing import tariffs, restricting the import of used cars, promoting and protecting the development of the local auto industry. Before the 2006-07 fiscal year, Pakistan implemented a localization plan in the automotive sector. According to the plan, if the automobile assembly project is submitted for project approval, it must submit a localization report to the relevant government agency (EDB). The initial requirements for localization of different specifications of automobiles are different. The smaller the displacement, the higher the localization rate requirement. Pakistan’s history of the automotive industry is among the oldest in Asia. The development of the automotive industry began with the production of semi-trailers (Bedford) by General Motors in 1949, marking the beginning of the history of the Pakistani automobile industry since the independence of British India.

Since 1949, the automobile industry has not grown steadily, and thus lags behind other Asian countries, such as China, Thailand, and India. The Pakistani auto industry does not support trade liberalization, which leads consumers to face higher prices, lower quality standards and less competition in the industry. As the sixth-largest manufacturing sub-sector of the Pakistani economy, the automotive industry employs 3.5 million workers, contributing 2.8% of GDP in 2012, with a turnover of more than Rs 3,000 crore (KPMG, Pakistan’s investment in 2013).

Pakistan International Airlines is the national airline of Pakistan. Its predecessor was Eastern Airlines Ltd., which was established in 1955. There are Karajana International Airport and Lahore Iqbal International Airport, and the second hubs are Islamabad International Airport, Peshawar International Airport, and Manchester International Airport. The origin of Pakistan International Airlines (BAB) can be traced back to when Pakistan was not independent. In 1946, Muhammad Ali Jinnah needed to establish a route network, and an industrialist Mirza Ahmed began investing in the founding. In February 1947, the airline acquired three DC-3 aircraft from a company in Texas and obtained an airline flight license in May of that year. In June, it began to serve from Kolkata to Sittwe and Yangon. This was the first flight from a South Asian registered airline after World War II. Two months later, Pakistan was founded. Eastern Airlines was assigned to the new country, and soon after, its business moved to Karachi, where it began to fly to Dhaka. In addition, there are two domestic routes from Karachi to Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta.
In Pakistan, the ‘Motorcycle Sea’ is a daily landscape of the streets. Motorcycles are the main means of transportation for Pakistanis. Pakistan, with a population of more than 200 million, is already the sixth most populous country in the world. In 2016, the annual output of motorcycles in Pakistan reached 2.2 million. In 2001, Pakistan produced only 100,000 motorcycles a year. During the 15-year period, the annual output of motorcycles in Pakistan has more than 20 times. Due to the extremely high import tariffs on Pakistani motorcycles (more than 65%), many manufacturers choose to import core parts from China (about 30% tariff) and assemble them locally in Pakistan. These manufacturers produce locally low value-added components such as tires, bearings, headlights, brackets, frames, indicators, mufflers, etc.
