SURF EXCEL #HAARKOHARAO CAMPAIGN HIGHLIGHTS CHILDREN’S WELFARE:
On the Universal Children’s Day, Surf Excel, a household name in Pakistan, unveiled a campaign that aims to highlight how far children have come and how giving them the self-confidence and encouragement is necessary for both them and the parents. Honda Motor Co. Ltd. took the admirable discussion to recall all the 900,000 minivans that have a slight ‘chance’ of causing injuries. The Indus Motor Company (IMC) has taken notice of the complications reported by their customers. It has ordered the management to cancel the bookings of over 1300 cars. The company will refund all the money of canceled cars to the ones who booked them.
MOBILE PHONE IMPORTS SHOW PHENOMENAL GROWTH IN FY 2017-18:
Mobile phones imports witnessed a phenomenal growth of 23.71 percent in the current fiscal year (July-October) 2017-18. The value remained at $245.203 million compared to $198.205 million during the same period of 2016-17 (July-October). Mobile phone imports in October 2017, which were $54.709 million, decreased by 10.9 percent than $61.403 million imports in September 2017, but increased by 5.95 percent compared to $51.639 percent in October 2016, revealed the latest data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

DRONE MAKER DJI IN CYBER-SECURITY ROW OVER BUG BOUNTY:
Drone maker DJI has accused a cyber-security researcher of hacking its servers. Kevin Finisterre claims that he accessed confidential customer data after finding a private key publicly posted on code-sharing site Github. He approached the firm, which offers a “bug bounty” reward of up to $30,000 (£23,000) for security weaknesses discovered in its systems.
DRIVERLESS CARS ON UK ROADS:
The most striking element of a package which included £75m for artificial intelligence research, £160m for new 5G mobile phone networks and £100m to train more computer science teachers, was the Chancellor’s plan to bring driverless cars to our roads. The government is promising “bold reforms” to encourage a driverless car industry which its press release says “will be worth £28bn to the UK economy by 2035”.
APPLE DELAYS LAUNCH OF SMART SPEAKER:
Apple is delaying the release of its HomePod smart speaker until 2018. The electronics giant said the device, which was due to be released in December this year, still needed development work. It said the HomePod would be ready to go on shop shelves in the US, UK and Australia “early in 2018”.
GERMANY BANS CHILDREN’S SMARTWATCHES:
A German regulator has banned the sale of smartwatches aimed at children, describing them as spying devices. It had previously banned an internet-connected doll called, My Friend Cayla, for similar reasons. Telecoms regulator the Federal Network Agency urged parents who had such watches to destroy them.
GAMERS’ ANGER HALTS STAR WARS BATTLEFRON II PAYMENTS:
Games publisher EA has suspended in-game purchases in its latest Star Wars title Battlefront II, following criticism from players. Gamers had complained that unlocking popular characters such as Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader took too long unless they paid for credits. EA said in-game purchases would be halted because it did not want the controversy to “overshadow” the game.
UBER CONCEALED HUGE DATA BREACH:
Uber concealed a hack that affected 57 million customers and drivers, the company has confirmed. The 2016 breach was hidden by the ride-sharing firm which paid hackers $100,000 (£75,000) to delete the data.
IRANIAN CHARGED WITH GAME OF THRONES HACK:
US prosecutors have charged an Iranian man with hacking into HBO, leaking Game of Thrones scripts and demanding a $6m (£4.5m) ransom. Behzad Mesri is accused of computer fraud, wire fraud, extortion and identity theft. Acting US attorney Joon Kim told the media in New York that Mr Mesri was in Iran.

Hundreds of web firms are tracking every single keystroke made by visitors, a study from Princeton University has suggested. The technique – known as session replay – is used by companies to gain an understanding of how customers use websites.
GOOGLE TO ‘DERANK’ RUSSIA TODAY AND SPUTNIK:
Google is to “derank” stories from Kremlin-owned publications Russia Today (RT) and Sputnik in response to allegations about election meddling by President Putin’s government. Alphabet chairman Eric Schmidt said the search giant needed to deal with the spread of misinformation.
MOSQUITO- SPREADING DRONE TO FIGHT DISEASES:
Drones that scatter swarms of sterile mosquitoes over wide areas are being developed to help stop the spread of diseases such as malaria. Sterile male mosquitoes cannot produce offspring when they mate with females. By crowding out other males, they reduce the mosquito population.
