According to the international industry experts, worldwide IT spending is expected to reach $6.37 trillion in 2026, up 14.2 percent from 2025. In the developing countries like Pakistan, during FY 2026 our country is accelerating its digital transformation under the digital Nation Pakistan framework, led by the Ministry of Information Technology & Telecommunication (MoITT). According to the government of Pakistan report, the Information Technology and Telecommunications sector has emerged as one of the most dynamic and strategically pillar of Pakistan’s economy, playing a decisive role in productivity enhancement, export diversification, digital sovereignty, and inclusive growth. Pakistan is advancing a comprehensive digital transformation agenda aligned with URAAN Pakistan and the Digital Pakistan Vision, aimed at building a knowledge-based, innovation-driven economy. Institutional strengthening across key agencies has significantly reinforced sectoral performance. The Universal Service Fund (USF) has expanded broadband and fiber connectivity in underserved and rural areas, narrowing the digital divide and promoting regional economic integration. The National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) has modernized government communication networks, strengthened cybersecurity frameworks, and deployed AI-integrated secure digital infrastructure to enhance public sector efficiency. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) has contributed to robust growth in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) exports, facilitated the freelance ecosystem, expanded Software Technology Parks (STPs), and attracted digital foreign investment. Innovation and human capital development remain central pillars, with Ignite National Technology Fund leading initiatives in AI upskilling, startup incubation, freelancing development, and emerging technologies including semiconductors. it is also reported that the present government is committed to expanding affordable IT access nationwide, mainly in rural and underserved areas, aiming to uplift lower-income households and bridge the digital divide. Major initiatives include the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy 2025, and the promotion of AI adoption through Indus AI Week 2026. To improve connectivity, 2025 was declared the Year of 5G, with a spectrum auction scheduled and targets to attain broadband speeds of 50–100 Mbps, alongside a National Fiberization Policy aiming for 60 percent fiber coverage. Local IT manufacturing has also been prioritized, highlighted by the inauguration of a Chrome book assembly line in partnership with Google, while IT exports have surpassed US $ 3.38 billion mark during July-March FY 2026, supported by over 1,300 startups operating in National Incubation Centers. Furthermore, on governance, the Digital Nation Pakistan Bill 2025 was approved, complemented by initiatives like the Pakistan Asaan Khidmat Centre and a new partnership with LUMS to strengthen digital governance and cybersecurity. In healthcare, integration of national ID numbers with medical records is being fast-tracked to organize a unified health database. Statistics showed that efforts toward digital inclusion have also been remarkable, with over 240,000 women trained in digital skills and 800,000 digital wallets enabled within a month. These initiatives aim to transition Pakistan toward a digitally empowered economy, strengthening both local infrastructure and global IT competitiveness.
