- Overhauls, exports and energy security plans key for Pakistan 2025 economic future
Interview with Mian Abrar Ahmad — an industrialist
PAGE: Tell me something about yourself, please:
Mian Abrar Ahmad: I am an industrialist , running business since 1974, mostly affiliated with Defence Industry.
PAGE: How could 2025 be for the global economy?
Mian Abrar Ahmad: There is a trade war going on between the USA & China which indicates that there will be restlessness in global economy. Besides, Russian war with Ukraine is another factor for destabilising Global & European economies which can ultimately affect Asian economies as well unless corrections are made in both economic and war zones.
PAGE: Would Pakistani economy fare well in 2025 in terms of GDP growth, inflation, investment, employment opportunities etc.?
Mian Abrar Ahmad: GDP growth depends purely on government economic policies. Inflation can only be controlled if dependence on IMF and other donors is reduced and exports are increased, which can ultimately lead to employment opportunities besides full activation of CPEC.
PAGE: What could be the major challenges in 2025?
Mian Abrar Ahmad: For Pakistan, we need major overhauls in all sectors of economy including taxation. Exports increase higher rate of productivity
PAGE: How do you see the energy situation in 2025?
Mian Abrar Ahmad: We don’t have energy security plan for Pakistan. Government must have long term 50 years energy security plan to start with
1. Increase in oil exploration.
2. Import of gas & electricity from Iran on immediate basis irrespective of American pressure.
3. Build more dams.
4. Increase in nuclear energy.
5. Production etc.
