- Multan Sultan must excel under the top teams in edition 8
Interview with Mr. Abdullah Shahmeer — a cricket enthusiast
PAGE: Tell me something about yourself, please:
Abdullah Shahmeer: I am by profession an educationist and media professional. At the moment, I’m running two firms, Inceptives and Quad Co as a Director. Being an educationist, I teach media studies and sociology at different A-level colleges, having around 13 years of experience in it.
PAGE: How would you comment on the opening ceremony of PSL 8?
Abdullah Shahmeer: Being a cricket fan, I’m extremely excited, especially because Multan is hosting the award ceremony for the very first time, and it’s pleasing to see that different cities are getting this golden opportunity every year. Moreover, the teams that are playing would surely be giving their best performances. Multan Sultan is a great team indeed, their performance was amazing last year. Meanwhile Lahore Qalandars, on the other hand, is a spectacular team too, with the best bowling lineup. Overall it will be a rollercoaster ride and a jaw-dropping match, but I’m all up for it!
PAGE: What is your perspective about Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United?
Abdullah Shahmeer: I think it’s going to be a tough competition. We all know that Islamabad United has a phenomenal batting lineup, while the opposing team, Lahore Qalandars, being the defending champions, will obviously have a great impact on all the teams playing. Clearly, it would be a match between the best batting and best bowling lineup. However, things wouldn’t be easy for Lahore Qalandars, as some of the finest players wouldn’t be playing this time, but some of them would be playing in the later matches. Islamabad United, on the other hand, is an amazing team too, but obviously, this is PSL, the tables can turn at any moment, hence it wouldn’t be an easy journey for both the teams.
PAGE: What is your take on the schedule of matches in various cities of Pakistan?
Abdullah Shahmeer: This is great progress, and it’s very pleasing to see matches being hosted by cities other than Karachi and Lahore, since international matches have taken place here in the past too, so it’s good that the matches get divided amongst others cities as well. Additionally, I hope that in the future, Quetta and Peshawar also get a chance to host the matches so that the locals there can see our champions playing live too.
PAGE: PSL has emerged as a robust brand. How would you comment on it?
Abdullah Shahmeer: PSL deserves all the support it gets from the Pakistani audience. It gives a platform to our youngsters to showcase their talent and get a chance to play in international teams, like Haris Rauf and Fakhar Zaman. Besides that, Pakistanis get a source of entertainment, through screenings where they cheer for their favorite teams. Plus Pakistan team recently has played back-to-back final matches in a single calendar year, hence, it has created immense hype. At the end of the day, all the teams are ours, therefore, PSL deserves the love and support it gets from Pakistanis.
