Interview with Ms. Durcheen Mari Baloch

Ms. Durcheen Mari Baloch is from Kohlu-Balochistan. She got 1stposition in DAE 2012 session throughout Balochistan. She got 2ndposition in BS in 2013-2016 session. When she joined politics, she faced too many difficulties because she was the first female politician in Mari tribe in Balochistan. She went through trials and tribulations for certain period of time, however, her contribution for her province in particular and for her country in general is widely appreciated. She joined politics in 2017 from the platform of APML. She was women wing President of APML-Balochistan. In 2018, she joined BAP. She is senior representative of BAP. She is also a President of Women Archery Association in Balochistan.[/box]
PAGE: Could you tell us about the economic significance of Balochistan?
Durcheen Mari Baloch: The economy of Balochistan plays a vital role in Pakistan. Our province is generally recognized for its production of natural gas, coal, and minerals. Balochistan has tremendous significance in the wake of its gas and coal reserves. Pakistan’s significant chunk of energy needs are met through energy produced by Balochistan. We love Pakistan from the core of our hearts. We are proud of our country and we want to see Pakistan progressing by leaps and bounds. Our efforts for the economic betterment of our country are being recognized. In addition to the energy, agriculture and livestock have ample significance in the economy of the province. Besides all this, horticulture, fisheries and manufacturing industries are playing their part in the economy of the province. Let me tell you that trade and services sectors are also foremost sectors in which there is ample contribution through public and private partnership.
PAGE: What are your views about the Gwadar Port?
Durcheen Mari Baloch: We all know that the Gwadar Port is the deepest sea port of the world. There is substantial progress in terms of the development of the projects. This place has marvelous strategic significance throughout the world. Gwadar Port is deemed to be the hub of an energy and trade corridor to and from China and the Central Asian republics. This indicates that Pakistan’s trade would grow manifold in the days to come. Foreign investors and domestic companies are taking plenty of interest to avail lucrative business opportunities. The influx of investment has proved that the region is going to play splendid economic role for the prosperity of our dear homeland Pakistan. The China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects have won widespread appreciation not only across Pakistan but also globally.

PAGE: What kind of transformation has taken place in Balochistan over the period of last couple of years?
Durcheen Mari Baloch: There was impoverishment, however, in the wake of soaring investment in the province in various projects, economic progress is evident and there is likelihood of even better economic prosperity in the days to come. Security situation has been beefed up for which we must appreciate our law enforcement agencies. Education standards have turned around. I presume Balochistan is rather safe and secure at present. Economic prosperity is being appreciated by locals as well.
PAGE: Kindly tell us about the state of the universities in Balochistan:
Durcheen Mari Baloch: There is terrific progress in terms of education in the entire province. There are plenty of renowned universities in Balochistan, however, some of them are Sardar Bahadur Khan Women’s University; University of Balochistan; Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences; Balochistan Virtual University; Alhamd Islamic University; Lasbela University of Agriculture, Water and Marine Sciences; Balochistan University of Engineering and Technology Khuzdar etc.
