25 years ago, the computer scientist Jeff Bezos founded Amazon as an online bookstore. The first package was shipped in July 1995, and in October of the same year amazon.com officially went online. Since then, a lot has happened, as can be seen from a look at the company’s international logistics structure. In addition, the company has long since ceased to be a pure e-commerce shop. Prime Video and Amazon Music are probably the best-known services.
But Bezos now also earns money in the B2B sector. Amazon Web Services cloud offering is probably the most profitable area of the group. The average person, however, still uses Amazon primarily to buy consumer goods. In the United States, 86 percent of the adults surveyed for the Statista Global Consumer Survey said they had bought something from amazon.com in the last twelve months; in India, the figure is as high as 88 percent.
