E-Commerce in Pakistan witnesses a rapid growth of 94pc:
According to a report released by the State Bank of Pakistan, Pakistan’s e-commerce sales have witnessed a sharp rise of 93.7 percent in 2018. The main reason behind the better performance of the e-commerce sector is larger internet accessibility. The online market has seen a boom in this outgoing year because of the services sector. In fact, the services sector contributes 60 percent to the GDP. Its contribution was 52 percent last year.

Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) IT Export Awards were held at Aiwan-e-Quaid Auditorium, Islamabad. The event was attended by Federal Secretary, IT and Telecommunication, Maroof Afzal, PSEB Board members, senior government officials and representative of Pakistan’s IT industry. The Federal Secretary IT & Telecommunication lauded the IT sector for its contributions to Pakistan. He said that Pakistan’s IT industry has reached an important milestone in its journey and has positioned itself to become one of the leading countries in the software and outsourcing services market and that it is vital at this stage to attract major investments in the IT sector.

Telenor Pakistan and microsoft team up to code for Pakistan:
Making strides toward its goal of empowering societies, Telenor Pakistan joined hands with Microsoft to bring DigiGovHackfest 2018 where bright young minds from the twin cities gathered to create digital solutions for civic problems. Xiaomi announces entry-level MI play phone:
Xiaomi has finally unveiled its XiaomiMi Play budget smartphone after several teasers and advertisement over the past few weeks. Huawei’s kit removed from emergency services 4g network:
BT (BT Group plc is a British multinational telecommunications holding company headquartered in London) has confirmed that equipment made by Huawei is being removed from the heart of a communication system being developed for the UK’s police forces and other emergency services. It follows a statement from BT earlier this month that it was swapping out the Chinese firm’s kit from the “core” of its 3G and 4G mobile networks. The Sunday Telegraph was first to report the latest development. It said the move could extend work on the late-running pound 2.3 billion project. BT is covering the cost of the switch. It does not believe the changeover will lead to a further delay.

‘Virtual tumour’ new way to see cancer:
Scientists in Cambridge have built a virtual reality (VR) 3D model of cancer, providing a new way to look at the disease. The tumour sample, taken from a patient, can be studied in detail and from all angles, with each individual cell mapped.Researchers say it will increase our understanding of cancer and help in the search for new treatments.

Google and amazon urged to follow apple’s ‘anti-gay app ban’:
Campaigners have thanked Apple for removing an app from its store that they said stigmatised LGBT people. The software promoted a US religious group that says homosexual practice is sinful and that its members should help “call up” others to their natural-born “biblical gender”.Apple’s store now says the app is not available, but the tech firm has not commented on the matter.

UK now has systems to combat drones
Detection systems are now able to be deployed throughout the UK to combat the threat of drones, government ministers quoted as saying. It follows three days of disruption at Gatwick airport last week, when drones were sighted near the runway. Security Minister Ben Wallace said those who use drones “either recklessly or for criminal purposes” could expect “the most severe sentence”.

Yanxi palace: the most googled show on earth:
It has love but also hatred, intrigue, revenge, poisoning rivals and even killing babies.The Chinese drama Story of Yanxi Palace is the most Googled TV show of 2018 globally, despite Google being largely blocked in the country.The search engine’s analytics suggested that the top interest in the drama has come from Asian regions like Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and Hong Kong, but its popularity in mainland China has been overwhelming as well.The series has been streamed more than 15 billion times on iQiyi, China’s Netflix-like site where the show premiered in July before it reached domestic TV channels and more than 70 markets abroad. It was the most watched online drama in China for 39 consecutive days over the summer.

Australia to set up drone-identifying systems:
Drone “hot spots” in Australia are getting sensors to automatically identify the aircraft and their pilots.Australia’s Civil Aviation Safety Authority (Casa) said it would install the equipment at the nation’s airports starting next month.The monitors have been planned for some time, but come in the wake of 72 hours of drone-related disruption at the UK’s Gatwick airport last week.In 2019, Australia will also start a scheme to register drone owners.

Suffolk farm drone in near-miss with tornado jet:
An RAF Tornado travelling at 517mph (832km/h) came within 22m (72ft) of hitting a drone. The jet, which was flying in formation 10 miles (16km) north-east of Wattisham Airfield in Suffolk, did not see the remote-controlled aircraft, according to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). The drone pilot, which reported the incident, said there was a high risk of collision.

Honor v20 with 48mp rear camera & punch hole selfie cam unveiled:
After being in the rumor mill for the past few weeks, Honor V20 has finally been revealed at an official company event in Paris, France. The phone takes some design cues from the Huawei Nova 4, especially the small camera hole on the top-left the display. Honor, however, says that it has improved its manufacturing process, and managed to place a punch-hole selfie camera without actually penetrating the display panel.
