Sony’s “3d creator” app now lets you post 3d selfies on facebook:
Sony has launched a new update for its 3D Creator App, giving the users more control over the photos captured in 3D. The update allows users to snap 3D selfies, post them directly to Facebook and even 3D print them. Sony has also taken up cloud processing to allow more back up options. The new Creator App renders selfies in more detail and lets you create Apple’s Animoji styled animated characters and avatars.

Steam starts removing links from mega in fight against piracy:
Steam has been actively censoring links to MEGA – a popular cloud storage service – and preventing users from sharing MEGA URLs in Steam chats or forums. All links that directed to the cloud-service were automatically taken down because Steam believed MEGA links to be potentially “malicious” for its users.

Youtube has removed 8.3 million videos during last 9 months of 2017:
After a rough year, YouTube has been forced to take a bunch of preemptive measures to change how the service is perceived. In a first for the company, YouTube is detailing the processes it undertakes to remove harmful/objectionable videos, in its first-ever quarterly moderation report. According to this report, the site removed 8.3 million videos in the last three quarters of 2017.

Google chat is supercharging plain old SMS with new features:
Google is working on a new service for the Android Messages app called Chat. It seeks to replace WhatsApp as the go-to app for sending messages and will offer traditional cellular SMS when you don’t have internet access. Mobile phone imports increase by 15% in first 9 months of fy2017-18:
Mobile phone imports witnessed a phenomenal growth of 14.99 percent in the first nine months (July-March) of 2017-18 reaching $603.075 million compared to $524.442 million during the same period of 2016-17 (July-March). Mobile phone imports in March 2018, stood at $77.042 million increasing by 18.41 percent compared to $65.062 million in March 2017, and increased by 10.41 percent compared to $69.779 million in February 2018, revealed the latest data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

Canada developing quantum radar to detect stealth aircraft:
Canada has invested $2.7m (£1.93m) into developing quantum radar – a new technology that would greatly improve the detection of stealth aircraft. The technology is being developed by the University of Waterloo to replace existing Arctic radar stations. Quantum radar can theoretically detect objects with a greater level of accuracy than conventional radar.

BBC iPlayer streams sport in 4k HDR for first time:
The BBC has broadcast a live event in 4K resolution and high dynamic range (HDR) colour for the first time. Its iPlayer service streamed a full rugby match on Sunday, which was made available to the public but not promoted in advance. BT began screening live sport in 4K in 2015, and Sky followed a year later.

Ransomware infects Ukraine energy ministry website:
Hackers have used ransomware to take the website of Ukraine’s energy ministry offline and encrypt its files. The website currently contains a message written in English, demanding a ransom of 0.1 bitcoin – worth $927.86 (£664.98) by today’s exchange rate. Ukranian cyber-police spokeswoman Yulia Kvitko said the attack is an “isolated incident” and no other government websites have been affected.

Vodafone has been rated the worst mobile phone provider for the seventh year running in an annual customer survey by consumer lobby group Which?. The other leading providers, EE, O2 and Three, also scored badly, with service judged “average” and “disappointing”. Of the small providers, Utility Warehouse ranked highest for value for money, incentives and customer service.

TSB online banking chaos continues despite apology:
TSB’s IT fiasco is heading for a fifth day, with angry customers still locked out of their accounts and unable to make payments. The bank said it would take down its mobile app and online banking “for a few hours” on Tuesday and hoped to restore services by the afternoon. But it now looks unlikely the issues will be resolved until Wednesday.

Youtube publishes deleted videos report:
YouTube’s first three-monthly “enforcement report” reveals the website deleted 8.3 million videos between October and December 2017 for breaching its community guidelines. The figure does not include videos removed for copyright or legal reasons. Sexually explicit videos attracted 9.1 million reports from the website’s users, while 4.7 million were reported for hateful or abusive content.

Police ‘visit funeral home to unlock dead man’s phone’:
Police in Florida have been criticised for allegedly entering a funeral home in a futile bid to unlock a dead man’s smartphone. Linus Phillip, 30, was killed while trying to escape from police at a petrol station in Largo on 23 March. After his body was released to the Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, his family say, two police officers tried to use his finger to unlock his mobile phone.

Robot helps Jack Mclinden, 14 to be Everton Mascot:
A 14-year-old Everton fan has made history by becoming football’s first “remote” match-day mascot – with the aid of a robot. Jack McLinden, who has multiple health conditions, experienced joining his heroes on the pitch before their game against Newcastle United on Monday. Everton captain Phil Jagielka carried the robot, which fed panoramic live images and sound back to Jack’s tablet.
