Interview with Haji Ghani Osman — Senior Member of Pakistan Stock Exchange

Haji Ghani Osman started his career in 1958 for a meager salary of Rs.15/- per month in Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) in the office of Mr. Wahid Jaleel, Senior Member of KSE. After passing his matriculation examination, he joined HBL in 1962 as an Office Clerk. As a result of his hard work and devotion to duty he was promoted to Grade-I Officer in the Bank in 1982. During 1982, after buying membership of Karachi Stock Exchange , he started his Brokerage House in the name of Ghani Osman Securities. He has remained 15 times Director and 4 times Vice Chairman of KSE. Finally he was Chairman of Demutualization Committee of KSE. He signed the agreement with Federal Minister Mr. Ishaq Dar during the year 2016 of PSX. By the Grace of Allah he is the Senior Member of PSX now.[/box]
PAGE: YOUR VIEWS ON CHINESE INVESTMENT IN PAKISTAN STOCK EXCHANGE:
HAJI GHANI OSMAN:Â As regards my views on Chinese investment in Pakistan Stock Exchange, I feel that we have very bright future and Insha Allah we hope to progress and prosper further, as we have entered into an agreement of 40% stake with Chinese companies/local bank HBL. So I hope that with Chinese investment, the business in PSX will further improve.
PAGE: WHERE DO YOU SEE PSX MOVING IN FUTURE?
HAJI GHANI OSMAN:Â I am of the strong view that Insha Allah, PSX will further progress and as soon as the management is changed. We observe that there will be remarkable improvement in the performance of PSX with the patronage of Government of Pakistan and SECP.

PAGE: WHICH SECTOR MAY PERFORM WELL ON PSX DUE TO THE FOREIGN STRATEGIC INVESTMENT?
HAJI GHANI OSMAN:Â I expect an overall better performance in all sectors. However, hopefully, there seem better indications in (1) cement sector (2) power sector (3) banks (5) steel and (4) food sectors, as a result of foreign investment in Pakistan and in PSX.
PAGE: HOW WOULD YOU COMPARE PSX WITH INDIAN AND CHINESE EXCHANGES?
HAJI GHANI OSMAN:Â PSX is far better than Indian and Chinese exchanges on dividend and return basis. However, as regards of capitalization, PSX cannot be compared with these exchanges.
