As Independence Day celebrations came to an end across Karachi, employees of Indus Motor Company Limited (IMC), manufacturer of Toyota vehicles in Pakistan, took to the city’s streets for a different kind of national service: collecting national flags and buntings left behind in public spaces.
The annual National Flag Collection Drive brings together employee volunteers to recover flags from roads, pavements and other public areas after the August 14 celebrations, ensuring that the national symbol is treated with the respect it deserves.
This year, volunteers covered areas including Steel Town, Surjani Town, Orangi Town, Maripur, Super Highway and Airmen Club Road. The collected flags and buntings were subsequently brought to IMC for respectful handling in accordance with the Company’s established process.
For IMC, the initiative is part of a broader belief that corporate citizenship begins with the actions of its people. While the Company contributes to Pakistan through manufacturing, employment and community initiatives, its employees also volunteer their time to address issues within the communities where they live and work.
Speaking on the occasion, Ali Asghar Jamali, Chief Executive Officer, Indus Motor Company Limited, said, “Toyota has grown with Pakistan and our pride in this country goes far beyond the vehicles we manufacture. The national flag represents the country we serve, the people we work alongside and the future we are invested in. Respecting its dignity is a simple responsibility, but an important one, and I am proud to see our employees take ownership of it.”
The drive is conducted under IMC’s Employee Volunteering Program and its CSR platform, Concern Beyond Cars. It also reflects the Company’s emphasis on discipline, order and respect for shared spaces, values that are embedded in its workplace culture.
More importantly, the initiative gives employees an opportunity to translate those values into action beyond the workplace. By coming together to care for a national symbol in public spaces, IMC employees are reinforcing a simple message: celebrating Pakistan also means taking responsibility for the country and communities we share.
The National Flag Collection Drive has become an annual employee led tradition at IMC, reflecting the Company’s belief that its relationship with Pakistan is shaped not only by what it manufactures, but also by how its people contribute to society.
