Visit of Karachi Press Club Members’ Children to Sindh Madressatul Islam University

Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) hosted an educational visit for the children of members and journalists from the Karachi Press Club.

During the visit, a ceremony was held in the university auditorium where the Acting Vice Chancellor, Dr. Jamshed Adil Halepoto, welcomed the children and thanked the Karachi Press Club and its members. He said that it is one of the primary responsibilities of parents to familiarize the younger generation with their history and heritage. He added that the visit of journalists’ children to SMIU connects them with the founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and other distinguished personalities, helping them build a strong relationship with their national legacy.

Dr. Halepoto described SMIU as a modern institution founded by Khan Bahadur Hassan Ali Effendi with the vision of enabling every new generation to receive a modern education and progress in life. Speaking about artificial intelligence (AI), he said that AI is a reality of today’s world, but people should not depend on it completely and should continue using their own intellect and critical thinking.

Mr. Razzak Abro, Secretary of the Karachi Press Club’s Library Committee, said that since last year, the Press Club has been organizing visits for its members’ children to various historical institutions and landmarks, and this visit is part of that initiative. He explained that the goal is to introduce children to the country’s national, cultural, and educational heritage from an early age. He thanked the SMIU administration, including Mr. Anwar Abro, Director of Public Relations, SMIU in particular, for organizing the visit so effectively.

On the occasion, Dr. Mansoor Ahmed Khuhro, Chairperson of the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Mathematical Sciences at SMIU, delivered a presentation on AI, discussing both its advantages and disadvantages. He emphasized that although AI is becoming increasingly important across all fields, it can never replace human intelligence and should not be relied upon entirely. Human judgment and reasoning will always remain essential.

Ms. Zunaira Jalali, Manager of the Directorate of Students Affairs and Counselling at SMIU, briefed the delegation about the university’s historical significance, student facilities, academic departments, and the services provided by the Directorate of Students Affairs. She welcomed the children and remarked that some of them might become SMIU students in the future. She also skillfully hosted the event.

The delegation was shown a documentary about the university. The ceremony was attended by senior journalists Ms. Sheema Siddiqui, Javed Mehr, and Naseer Ahmed, along with SMIU officials, including Dean Dr. Stephen John, Registrar Ghulam Mustafa Sheikh, Director of Examinations and Admissions Furqan Iftikhar, Director of Human Resource Management Shakeel Abro, and others.

Afterward, the delegation visited the Jinnah Museum, where Ashfaq Siyal, Assistant Director of the Public Relations Department, briefed them on memorabilia related to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Khan Bahadur Hassan Ali Effendi, and notable alumni. During a visit to the university’s TV studio, Asif Ghaffar, Director of the Media Training Center, provided information about the studio and its facilities.
