Apple has unveiled the iPhone 14, with emergency satellite connectivity and car crash detection technology, at a launch event in the US. The company revealed four versions of the new handset at its Cupertino headquarters, with an audience attending in person for the first time since the pandemic. It also showed off a new extreme sports wearable – the Watch Ultra. The event focused on next generation iPhone, Watch and AirPod products. Apple CEO Tim Cook was on stage at the Steve Jobs theatre inside the tech giant’s California campus – but the presentation itself was entirely pre-recorded.
Scammers Posing as Arab Bank Employees Arrested in Islamabad:
Islamabad’s Cyber Crime Circle (CCC) has arrested a gang of 10 scammers that were posing as bank employees, reported The Media earlier today. These scammers were posing as Arabian bank employees to obtain account data from unsuspecting citizens to breach their accounts and steal money. The gang made use of Pakistani and Saudi Arabian SIM cards to trick people, according to details shared by the CCC.

Recent Floods Causes Over 120 Cuts in Fiber Network Across Pakistan:
The optical fiber grid received more than 120 cuts at various locations during the catastrophic floods in the country. According to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) officials, around 250 bridges have been destroyed due to floods across the country, in most of which the flood water has washed away the optical fibers along with the bridges. Optical fibers received cuts at more than 120 locations across the country.

iPhone 14 Plus may just be the battery champion of all smartphones. As expected, Apple launched a total of four new iPhones last night, but there is no iPhone 14 Max among them. Instead, it is called the iPhone 14 Plus and it is simply a larger iPhone 14 with a much bigger battery. It is the largest battery on an iPhone yet, which is even bigger than the Pro models this year.

Google Unveils Launch Date of its iPhone 14 Competitors:
Google has confirmed the launch date for its next flagship phone series as well as the Pixel Watch and Buds Pro. Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro were already teased in May during Google’s I/O conference, but now the actual launch date has been unveiled. Google is taking the curtains off of its upcoming phones on October 6 at 7 pm PKT. The search engine giant has also confirmed the name for its next-generation SoC that will power Pixel 7 devices.
Qualcomm Announces New Snapdragon Chips for Affordable Phones:
Shortly after the Snapdragon 8 and 7 Gen 1, we now have something for budget phones as well. Qualcomm has just announced its latest smartphone chipsets dubbed Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 (SD6G1) and 4 Gen 1 (SD4G1) which are meant for mid-range and budget phones respectively. Qualcomm has not shared the full spec sheet yet, but we know that the SD6G1 is based on TSMC’s 4 nm process while the SD4G1 is sticking with the 6 nm node. Both chips have eight cores, but the SD4G1’s CPU cores are capped at 2.0GHz while the SD6G1’s main cores will go up to 2.2GHz. Qualcomm has not talked about the Adreno GPUs onboard the chips either.
Affordable Realme C33 With Large Battery and 50MP Camera:
Realme had a few announcements to make this week including a new phone, a smartwatch, and a pair of wireless earbuds. Realme C33 is now the latest model in its budget C series and also one of its most affordable phones of 2022. Design-wise, Realme C33 looks almost the same as 9i 5G that came out last month, but with one less camera on the back. On the front, it has a 6.5-inch IPS LCD with a waterdrop notch selfie camera and a thick bottom bezel.
Staggering Expenses of Telcos Threaten 5G Development in Pakistan:
Three out of four Mobile Network Operators (MNO) s’ annual expenses in Pakistan on the spectrum are above 10 percent of their revenues, which presents a threat to the development of 5G in the country. This was revealed in the official documents of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication. International consultancy, Coleago Consulting, did a study on Pakistan spectrum, which is currently under review by the ministry.

Albania severs diplomatic ties with Iran over cyber-attack:
Albania has severed diplomatic ties with Iran and ordered Iranian embassy staff to leave, accusing it of orchestrating a major cyber-attack. Prime Minister Edi Rama said a probe had found “incontrovertible evidence” that Iran “hired four groups to mount the attack on Albania” on 15 July. The hackers tried to paralyse public services, delete and steal government data, and incite chaos, he added. In response, Iran rejected Mr Rama’s claims as “baseless.” Its foreign ministry condemned the decision to expel its diplomats as “anti-Iranian” and suggested in a statement that “third parties” may have been involved in coming up with the accusations, Iran’s state news agency reported.
Southampton phone mast plan for site of prior 5G refusal:
A telecoms firm has been granted permission to dig “trial holes” to test the feasibility of a new phone mast – exactly where one was refused less than a year ago. Southampton City Council said it had approved a permit request from T-Mobile to carry out the work in Raymond Road. In October, it rejected an application by CK Hutchison Networks to build a 15m (49ft) 5G mast on the same spot. It ruled it would be an “intrusive structure” in the residential location.

Holiday Inn hotels hit by cyber-attack:
Holiday Inn owner, Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG), has confirmed the company has been hit by a cyber-attack.IHG, which has some of the world’s largest hotel chains, issued a statement saying it was investigating “unauthorised access” to a number of its technology systems. The UK-based company said its “booking channels and other applications” had been disrupted since Monday. It manages the Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza and Regent hotels. “IHG is working to fully restore all systems as soon as possible,” the company said.
Ukraine war: North Korea supplying Russia with weapons, says US:
Russia has been forced to buy military hardware from North Korea as sanctions squeeze Moscow’s ability to supply its military, the US says. A US official revealed Moscow is the process of purchasing millions of rockets and artillery shells from Pyongyang for use in Ukraine. And they said that Russia could be forced to buy additional North Korean weaponry as the war dragged on. Buying from North Korea is a sign of “severe supply shortages”, they added.
