Ihsan Trust- Taking Pakistan to Road of Progress and Sustainability

In order to move forward and progress in the world, giving ample of opportunities to the people to prosper and contribute towards the nation building, Education plays a vital and most important role. In most of the developing countries (including Pakistan) unfortunately, education has remained on least priority list and specially Higher Education is considered a luxury, affordable by only few (blessed ones).

As Pakistan being a developing country and considered as a Third World country, it is amongst the countries in the world having a large number of people living below the poverty line. Accordingly, not only Education has been a sector not given due importance in the past, but with one of the lowest literacy rates in the world, the proportion of population acquiring higher education or even having access to higher Education is much, much lower.

In order to overcome this deficiency and to have a sustainable future, not only due importance should be given for the Education sector (particularly Higher Education) but we need to establish a need blind admission system in the whole country. This way Pakistan can be brought out of this vicious cycle of poverty leading to economic disparity.

In order to achieve this, Ihsan Trust was established with the sole purpose to assist the students financially in getting higher education in Pakistan. Starting its working in Jan 2010, Ihsan Trust has been inspired by the “Need-Blind Admissions” culture and concept in many foreign universities. Need-blind admission is a term denoting an admission policy, in which the educational institution does not consider an applicant’s financial situation, when deciding admission. We decided to initiate this concept in Pakistan, where thousands of deserving candidates are discouraged to apply for higher education institutions, because of their inability to afford them. Ihsan Trust is acting as a beacon of hope for all those students.

The Mission of Ihsan Trust is to reach out and help the poor and needy in a manner that is only according to the principles of Islam, so as to take care/look after the well being of poor and needy and to encourage the socio-economic uplift of the low-income community, in order to increase the economic prosperity of the society, ultimately contributing towards the betterment of Pakistan and the Ummah.

With the arrival of Ihsan Trust and some other organizations as well in this new Millenium, Higher education, which once, was a luxury only few could afford. However, today many students are studying in the best and top universities of Pakistan with the help and support of Ihsan Trust. Ihsan Trust has introduced a sustainable model of enabling higher education and eradicating economic disparity in Pakistan. It is playing an active role to achieve the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) on Education in Pakistan.

In our journey of around 12 years, Alhamdolillah, we have many success stories. As per one of the students of IBA:

“When I joined IBA in 2014, I knew my parents will not be able to afford four (04) years of my studies. I used to earn by giving tuition and wanted to finance my studies, myself.

Ihsan Trust enabled me to do that by granting me an interest free loan with affordable installments which I could afford myself. They supported me throughout my 4 years of BBA degree.

I graduated with a place on Dean’s honor list and immediately secured a Management Trainee position in one of the top organization of the country. Today, a major part of this success goes to Ihsan Trust for helping me finance my studies. ”

With many success stories like these, Ihsan Trust has been able to change the lives of many. Having more than one child studying in different universities in Pakistan can be very overwhelming for the sole family earner. Working on the premise that Helping one student might not change the world, but it will definitely change the world for that one student. Alhamdolillah, Ihsan Trust has so far changed the world of not one or two or few, but of more than 4,000 students across Pakistan.

We hope that one day Pakistan will have the lowest poverty rate. We hope that by collaboration with the right people and right organizations, Ihsan Trust will be able to contribute in the Higher Education sector of Pakistan. The support from the society will surely help us in achieving our desired goal, i.e. students (on merit) taking need blind admissions in their first-choice universities and programmes, knowing that Ihsan Trust is there to help and support them in achieving their dreams.
