Jazz and PTCL top PTA complaint charts again:
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) received 2,757 complaints from telecom consumers against different telecom operators including (cellular operators, PTCL, LDIs, WLL operators and ISPs) during February 2018. According to PTA data, Jazz (Mobilink + Warid) led the charts with 770 complaints and PTCL stood at second position as the most complained telecom operator with 765 complaints.

UNCTAD and Alibaba business school kick off efounders initiative for Asian entrepreneurs:
The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and Alibaba Business School enrolled the first class of 37 Asian entrepreneurs for the eFounders Initiative at an opening ceremony held on the Alibaba campus in Hangzhou, China. The 11-day course is part of a commitment by Jack Ma, Alibaba Group’s founder and Executive Chairman and UNCTAD Special Adviser, to empower 1,000 entrepreneurs from developing countries in five years.

After successfully launching Mi Stores in other major Pakistani cities, with Smartlink Technologies as its Official Partners, Xiaomi has added another feature in its cap recently. A new invention turns desert air into water by using just sunlight:
As major regions around the world gear up for serious water problems (including Pakistan), a solution from MIT promises to extract water from the driest of climates. Reported in the Nature Communications, the invention uses metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) to extract water from the air. MOFs consist of metal ions which form two and three-dimensional structures to harvest water.

FBR launches a knowledge base portal to assist taxpayers:
Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has launched the first version (Beta) of a Knowledge-Base Portal for guidance and facilitation of taxpayers. The portal was launched jointly by Muhammad Zahid, Member Customs and Khawaja Adnan Zahir, Member IT, FBR.

Govt appoints Muhammad Naveed as chairman PTA:
The federal cabinet, last Wednesday, approved the appointment of Muhammad Naveed as Member (Finance) Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). It was also decided that the newly appointed Member (Finance) will work as Acting Chairman PTA for three months. Govt said that it will seek to fill the position of regular Chairman PTA during the time.

The co-founder and COO of DealSmash; Hamza Iftikhar has been selected for the Alibaba’s eFounders Initiative Entrepreneurship Training Program which will take place from 25 March to 4 April 2018. Careem launches in Quetta:
Careem aims to be the catalyst of growth for Balochistan and looks to create value for its people. The company has announced that it is launching its services in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan. A cyber-crime mastermind suspected of stealing about £870m (€1bn) has been arrested in Spain. The individual is alleged to be the head of the organized crime gang that ran the Carbanak and Cobalt malware campaigns that targeted banks.

Tumblr deletes ‘Russian troll’ accounts:
Blogging platform Tumblr has deleted 84 accounts it says Russian propagandists used to spread disinformation during the 2016 US election. The accounts are believed to have been used by Russia’s Internet Research Agency (IRA) – an organization linked to many different web-based campaigns.

Sensor firm Velodyne ‘baffled’ by Uber self-driving death:
The firm that designed the sensors on the Uber self-driving car that killed a woman this week has said its technology was not to blame. San Jose-based Velodyne said it was “baffled” by the incident, adding its equipment was capable of seeing in the dark. Elaine Herzberg, 49, was struck by the car late night in Tempe, Arizona. She died in hospital.

Facebook says an overhaul of its privacy tools will make it easier for people to find and edit the personal information the company holds. Details of the changes were announced in a blog. A Californian fast-food chain is suing a YouTube videomaker over claims his “prank” films caused “irreparable harm” to two of its restaurants. Huawei P20 pro smartphone ‘can see in the dark’:
Huawei’s latest smartphone can take photos in near-dark conditions without using its flash or a tripod. The P20 Pro takes exposures lasting up to six seconds to get enough light. It then uses artificial intelligence to deliver sharp images and avoid the blurring and smearing normally associated with employing this technique handheld.

Jaguar self-drive car revealed in New York:
The first self-styled “premium” autonomous car has been unveiled in New York – and it’s a Jaguar. The vehicle, made in conjunction with Google’s self-driving unit Waymo, will be tested on public roads this year. By 2020, the firms say 20,000 self-driving Jaguar sport utility vehicles (SUVs) will be part of Waymo’s public fleet.
